The dancing school is now celebrating its 10th year (2007). It is run by myself, Claire Smales, a qualified IDTA teacher (International Dance Teachers Association).
I started my dance career at the tender age of 3 and still continue to further my qualifications to ensure all aspects of dance are up-to-date with current practices. Each individual is catered for in a happy and friendly environment. We are a dance school that prides itself on quality work and commitment from pupils and parents, many of which are longstanding, whilst remembering that dance is fun! Pupils participate in the IDTA examination system and are presented their awards by celebrity guests at a special presentation evening each year. Regular attendance enables pupils to dance at galas throughout the year and ‘tread the boards’ in our shows, which are performed every 2 years. We also run an annual summer school during the August holidays, where pupils from 5yrs upwards can come along for 3 days and enjoy lessons in dance, drama, singing, staging, make-up/hair etc with a performance on the last afternoon for parents to watch. The dance school regularly invites other teachers in to work with pupils on their drama, singing and dance. This gives variety and stops classwork from becoming ‘stale and boring’. All teachers are required to hold enhanced disclosures as pupils’ wellbeing is paramount. 45 Pontefract Road, Knottingley WF11 8RW
